Writer. Translator. Editor.

My day-to-day work of shaping stories – whether my own or other people’s, in English or in translation – is underpinned by a love of close reading. It was my passion for books that first led me into this career, and to this day there’s nothing I enjoy more than getting under the skin of a text, finding its unique voice and the words that make it sing. I’m fascinated by language in all forms and always jump at the opportunity to learn a new one: while I currently work between German and English, in the past I’ve also studied Russian, Croatian, French and Spanish.

Before becoming a full-time freelancer, I held jobs in global mobility, hospitality and the charity sector. I have a BA(Hons) in Combined Honours in Arts from Durham University, for which I wrote a dissertation on representations of the Holocaust in literature. Beginning in my early twenties, I spent a total of nine years living in Austria – most of them in Vienna, but also Klagenfurt and Wels. I am now based back in the UK on the edge of the South Downs.

Alongside my work, I am a proud volunteer editor for Witness Change, working particularly on their refugee storytelling initiative, 1000 Dreams.
